Looks can be Deceiving

Mary looked like a typical Midwestern woman. She had eyes of the bluest oceans and a sun reflecting smile. She always dressed professionally in assorted colors, stripes, and dots of business suits and skirts. Her hair was always neatly done so that there wasn’t a single strand out of place. When she spoke, her voice was gentle and caring and even if she was having a bad day, that voice made you believe it was the best day of her life.

She was kind and the bank hired her on the spot. Mary greeted everyone with a smile and a friendly word. They could be taking out another mortgage on the house or depositing a lousy paycheck but they still smiled and greeted Mary.

Mary worked at the bank for over two years. She was friends with everyone who worked there. Everyone became close to Mary. They would all go out on Friday nights or invite everyone over for dinner or to the movies. Nobody suspected a thing until Mary slipped up.

Mary had been taking money from the bank for two years - a little bit here, a little bit there. Mary had been stealing just enough to keep anyone from noticing without close inspection.
She was arrested and the bank terminated her employment immediately. After that, the bank manager checked into Mary’s history and found that she had prior convictions halfway across the country.

If only the bank had done a background check first, this type of problem would have never occurred. A criminal is not always the kind you see in the movies with sinister laughs and evil looks. Most are the ones that seem normal. The ones like Mary that no one would suspect.

The best way to stop a criminal is to stop them before they set foot in the door. Do a background check on possible future employees. Click here and save yourself any future hassles or doubt.
