Daycare Troubles

Trisha worked in insurance when she first met Mark. Mark was a construction worker and they met through mutual friends. They hit it off and five years later they are married and have a beautiful daughter named Stacy. She’s one and a half, loves Sesame Street, can’t get enough applesauce, and giggles anytime you make a funny face.

Trisha took time off of her job to stay at home with Stacy while Mark continued to work. The insurance company was kind enough to tell Trisha that when she was ready to return, her job would still be there and after about two years, she was ready to go back. Consequently, they would have to take Stacy to a daycare.

There was a nice one that was in a perfect location right on the way to Trisha’s work. She could drop Stacy off on her way there and pick her up on her way home. She never thought about who she would be placing her child’s care under until she was watching television the night before she planned to return to work.

An employee at a daycare in a neighboring state had recently been charged with drug dealing. She was making deals on her cell phone during her lunch breaks. It wasn’t until then that Trisha did a background check on the people who would be caring for her daughter. Luckily for her, she found nothing wrong and took her daughter to the daycare the next day.

The woman who managed the daycare with the drug dealing employee had more problems though. After the story broke on the news, long time customers began to go elsewhere, and she could not generate new business because of the one bad employee she had hired. She had plenty of well qualified workers but people only remembered the one bad one. The woman dealing drugs seemed normal so the manager did no background check when she hired her. If she had, she would have found a list of arrests for various things including drugs in her file.

She didn’t take the time to do a background check on an employee and now her business suffers dearly for it. One bad egg can ruin the dozen. Click here and make sure that bad egg gets thrown in the trash.
