Phony IDs foil background checks

A team of Special Agents, testing the Brady background check system had no trouble “illegally” buying guns in 5 states using phony computer-generated IDs.

The Agents bought the guns from licensed gun dealers in Virginia, West Virginia, Montana, New Mexico, and Arizona from Oct 2000 through Feb 2001.

The Brady background check determines only if a gun buyer has a criminal record but fails to verify the name or identification used by the buyer.
