Background check errors costing people jobs
Imagine losing out on a job opportunity or being fired from your current job because of a crime you didn’t commit. It can and has happened when mistakes occur in your employee background check.
In an era when background checks are booming throughout America, this is a human error that’s becoming more common.
Raymond Lorenzo is an excellent real-life example of what can happen. Lorenzo has been unsuccessfully job hunting for 5 straight years. “I’m everywhere and I’ve applied to everything.”
These days, you can’t even get an $8.00/hour job at Wal-Mart or Home Depot if you have a felony record.
Consumer advocate Beth Givens says she is seeing more & more cases of mistakes, now that 80% of employers are screening potential employees.
“I think it’s probably going to be as big of an issue as identity theft has been for the past decade. We hear from people almost daily who are having problems with their background checks.”
