Gun Buyers Background Checks Seriously Flawed
Instant background checks on retail gun buyers could infringe on your 2nd amendment rights, or fail to stop a criminal from buying a gun.
Mandatory background checks and waiting periods don’t stop crime and violence.
National criminal history records are inaccurate. The dealer calls the Federal NCIC system, or in some states, the State’s criminal records system as well to run the background check on the gun buyer, but neither one of these databases are complete. Some gun buyers who are legally eligible to buy a gun have failed the background check, and were denied their rights. There is no way of knowing how many convicted criminals have slipped through the cracks and passed the background check at a gun show. The instant background check would not have stopped Hinckley in 1981. Recommended article.
